Catholic diocese schedules collection for Harvey victims

From staff reports

A collection will be taken for the victims of Harvey at masses throughout the Erie Catholic Diocese this weekend.

“Our brothers and sisters in the affected areas desperately need our prayerful and financial support,” Bishop Lawrence Persico said.

All the donations will be forwarded to Catholic Charities USA, the agency providing assistance to those affected.

Checks should be made out to local parishes, which will then forward the donations to the administrative offices of the diocese so a single payment may be made to Catholic Charities.

The diocese also said people can donate directly to Catholic Charities at www.ErieRCD.org.

The collection is being coordinated through the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion said in a press release it will be participating in this effort at masses this weekend.
