Venango County recently received a grant from the state for more than $300,000 for an expansion at the Venango County Community Recycling Center in Franklin.
The 902 grant for $300,286 from the Department of Environmental Protection will be used in conjunction with another grant to build on to the center and increase capacity, Erik Johnson, the Venango County recycling and solid waste coordinator, said.
Johnson said the county received a 902 grant last year from the DEP for $350,000 that must be spent by next year.
The plan is to build an addition to the center to increase capacity as well as additional space for storage and processing materials, Johnson said. The building project will go out to bid this fall, he added.
The DEP monies will also be used to purchase additional equipment such as bins, another baler and forklift, Johnson said.
Johnson also said many people are visiting the recycling center, and he added he had to order another bin because of demand.
Household hazardous waste (HHW) and electronics collections are also starting up again, he added.
The next HHW and electronics collection at the center, located at 134 Hangar Drive in Franklin, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30.

Going forward, Johnson said he plans to hold the collections quarterly due to the cost.
