Franklin man charged after domestic dispute

From staff reports

A Franklin man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting and restraining his girlfriend.

A criminal complaint filed by Franklin police says Chakotay Defreese, 18, was arrested after the incident that occurred Sunday.

Police responded to a physical domestic dispute at an Atlantic Avenue residence and spoke to the girl, who is a minor, the complaint said. She told police that an argument between her and Defreese had started over Facebook messenger, according to the complaint.

The girl broke Defreese’s phone and tried to leave, but Defreese slammed the door on her head, grabbed her and threw her on a bed and wouldn’t let her leave, the complaint said.

The girl made several more attempts to leave but Defreese restrained her, the complaint said. She was able to eventually fight off Defreese and get away, and then she went to a neighbor’s house to call police, the complaint said.

Defreese was charged with one felony count of unlawful restraint of a minor, a misdemeanor count of simple assault and a summary count of harassment. He was unable to post bail and was remanded to the Venango County jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Central Court.
