Franklin man held for court on burglary charges

A Franklin man was held for court Wednesday in Venango County Central Court on charges that accuse him of breaking into two apartments in Franklin last week.

Franklin city police said they were called Friday evening to the Oak Hill Apartments where a man later identified as Shane Anthony, 35, was looking in the windows of one of the apartments and then asked the residents if they wanted cake when they confronted him.

Police said they were approached at the scene by a woman who said Anthony had entered her apartment through an unlocked door the night before while she and her young daughter were sleeping.

The woman said she didn’t know how long Anthony was in her apartment, but she woke up when he lifted up her blankets and tried to get into her bed, police said.

He eventually left the home, and the woman said she didn’t know Anthony and he had no reason to be in her apartment, according to police.

Officers were later approached by a man who told them that while they were looking for Anthony he broke into his apartment through the ground floor bedroom window that was unlocked, police said.

Anthony then ran quickly through the man’s apartment and left through the front door, police said. The man noted that Anthony had no right to be in his apartment, according to police.

A third tenant told police Anthony was in the back bedroom of her apartment, but he hadn’t broke in because he was allowed to be there, police said.

Officers entered the apartment with the tenant’s permission and arrested Anthony, according to police.

Anthony was held for court Wednesday on two felony counts each of criminal trespass-break into structure and burglary-overnight accommodations person present and a misdemeanor count of loitering and prowling at night.
