Local Catholic entities participating in Giving Tuesday effort

From staff reports

The #iGiveCatholic campaign is bringing its Giving Tuesday effort to the Oil City area.

#iGiveCatholic is a 24-hour online giving event designed to unite Catholics to come together and raise as many charitable dollars as possible for Catholic parishes, schools and nonprofit ministries on Giving Tuesday, which is Nov. 29.

Locally, the Catholic Rural Ministry of the Oil City Deanery, Saint Elizabeth Center and Venango Region Catholic School are participating in the giving day, which is facilitated by the Catholic Foundation of Northwest Pennsylvania for organizations in the Erie Catholic Diocese.

Donors can visit erie.igivecatholic.org on Nov. 29, or any time during the advanced giving window that runs through Nov. 28.

Those wishing to donate by check can submit their gift to the ministry of their choice during the same timeframe.

Participating ministries are eligible to win cash prizes by attaining predetermined goals on the day of the event and during the advanced giving period.

More than $28,000 will be awarded from a cash prize pool thanks to event sponsors and an anonymous donor dedicated to supporting the Catholic community.

Last year 1,653 donors gave $340,054 in support of Catholic organizations throughout northwest Pennsylvania.

Questions regarding #iGiveCatholic can be directed to Elizabeth Rathburn, development associate for the Catholic Foundation, at (814) 824-1257.
