Man charged for sexual relationship with girl, 16

A 24-year-old Franklin man has been charged with corrupting a minor for having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl that led to the girl becoming pregnant.

A criminal complaint filed by Franklin police names Chase Jeffrey Reed, 24, of 364 Pacific St., Franklin, in the charge, which also includes Reed giving the girl alcohol and drugs.

The complaint says that on Sept. 28, 2015, police were assigned a Children and Youth Services case that had been transferred from Marienville state police. The report said a juvenile girl had made statements in a live chat room about being coerced into having sex with Reed.

The report said the girl was 16 at the time of the incident and Reed was 23. The incident was reported to have occurred at Reed’s residence on Pacific Street, and the girl said Reed got her pregnant through coercion, the complaint said.

Police interviewed the girl on several occasions and found that on or about Dec. 31, 2014, Reed supplied her with alcoholic beverages, klonopin and marijuana and also had sex with the girl. On or about Jan. 16, 2015, Reed again supplied her with klonopin and had sex with her at his residence, the complaint said.

About two weeks later, the girl took several tests that confirmed that she was pregnant. She and Reed continued to be involved in a relationship until March 2015, when they ended their relationship. The two began having arguments over the pregnancy and custody of the child, the complaint said.

The girl’s mother told police she wasn’t aware of Reed’s age until after the child had been conceived and the incident was reported. When the mother learned this information, she requested that Reed be charged for the corruption of her daughter, the complaint said.

Police tried to speak with Reed, but the interview was denied by the defendant’s attorney, Neil Rothschild, the complaint said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled March 30 in Venango County Central Court.
