Oil City sets kindergarten registration

From staff reports

Registration for kindergarten classes in the Oil city Area School District for next fall will be held Wednesday, March 29 through Friday, March 31.

Children who reach their fifth birthday before August 1, will be eligible to enroll for kindergarten. Parents must present the child’s birth certificate (or proof of birth), immunization record and the child’s social security number at the time of registration. A school nurse will be assisting parents to complete health histories for the required school records.

During the registration process, the health history portion of the registration will be complete prior to the completion of other screenings. Parents are reminded that state law now requires each child to have completed immunizations for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, 9-day measles, mumps and hepatitis B and Varicella (chickenpox). Proof of Varicella immunization or written proof that the child has had chickenpox is required. The Oil City School District nursing staff will offer vision screening tests to all children who registered at this time. The program helps detect eye disorders which occur in preschool children.

Meetings will be held at both schools for the purpose of providing parents with specific information and an overview of the kindergarten registration process. Hasson’s orientation meeting is scheduled from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 2 and Smedley’s orientation meeting is scheduled from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21. School staff will be present information or answer questions regarding child maturation and development, health history information, special services and the summer kindergarten orientation program. This meeting is considered very important to understanding your child’s educational needs and your attendance is strongly encouraged.

The school district urges that parents who wish to enroll their children in kindergarten do so according to the registration schedule shown below for each of the schools. The registration will be the only means of knowing the number of students for next fall so that adequate facilities, instructional programs and class sizes can be anticipated.
