Polk man killed in Mineral Township crash

From staff reports

A Polk man died from serious injuries he received in a one-vehicle crash Saturday morning on the Jackson Center Polk Road (Route 965) in Mineral Township.

Franklin state police identified the man as Richard Adams, 63.

Police said Adams, who was driving a Ford F250 Supercab, was traveling west at about 5:20 a.m. Saturday on the wet roadway when he applied his brakes, causing the vehicle to slide about 145 feet.

Adams lost control of the vehicle as it slid, and the vehicle began rotating at a high rate of speed for about 85 feet, police said. The Supercab then struck the eastbound guide rail with its passenger side and front end area, according to police.

The vehicle then continued to rotate for another 121 feet, and during this sequence Adams was ejected from the passenger side window of the vehicle, police said. The Supercab then struck the eastbound guide rail a second time before coming to rest, according to police.

Adams was first transported to Grove City Hospital for treatment of his serious injuries, but he was later transferred to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for further treatment, police said.

He was pronounced dead on Saturday by Allegheny General Hospital medical personnel, according to police.

Sandycreek and Polk volunteer firefighters and Community Ambulance Service personnel assisted at the scene, police said.
