Mr. Gauche (Elliott Eisenman) listens to Droopy the Clown (Chase Anderson) try out to be co-anchor with Roxanne (Lauren Ronchi) while Cyrano (Reza Reese) waits his turn.

Seventh grade students from St. Stephen School, under the direction of Joyce Dittman and Mary Anne Oliver, will present the comedy “A Nose for the News” by Charlie Lovett at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2016, in the school gymnasium.

The 7 p.m. performance is open to the public. The students will also present the play at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for the school children.

In the play, Cyrano de Bergerac is transported to a present day TV station, WCDB, where Cyrano (Reza Reese) is the station manager. He would love to be Roxanne’s (Lauren Ronchi) co-anchor, if only he didn’t have an enormous, bulbous nose. Meanwhile, scheming station owner Mr. Gauche (Elliott Eisenman), his dense son Pierre (Alex Cozad) and the not-too-bright news anchor for rival station WNOZ Vincent Valvert (Nolan Lineman) have a plan to sink their ratings so Gauche can collect insurance on the failed business. He arranges for Chris (Colin Deeter), the handsome but dumb as a brick mail man, to be Roxanne’s new co-anchor. With many other zany characters, there is never a dull moment at station WCDB. To save the station, Cyrano ends up writing the news stories for Chris instead of the station’s news writer Bret (Luke Barnitz).

Will Cyrano save the station? Will he get to be Roxanne’s co-anchor?

Check out “A Nose for the News” and find out the answers. Admission costs $1 for grade school students, $3 for high school and $5 for adults.
