Suspect in vehicle thefts apprehended

State police said a Titusville man who has been charged with several vehicle thefts has been apprehended.

According to police, Zachary Thompson, 28, was apprehended Sunday afternoon in Elk Township, near Edinboro, in Erie County.

Police said they were dispatched at 2:21 p.m. to Crossingville Road on a report of a crash in which the driver fled the scene.

Police said the complainant reported he heard a crash in his front yard, and when he went out to look he saw a man exit the vehicle and flee the scene.

Police said it was discovered that the crashed vehicle was stolen from an area in the jurisdiction of Franklin state police and that the driver was believed to be Thompson.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, they learned Thompson had entered the complainant’s barn and attempted to steal a farm truck.

Police said as they were speaking to the complainant, they observed Thompson running behind the barn into an open field.

Police said troopers gave chase by foot and after a struggle Thompson was taken into custody to state police in Girard.

In addition to outstanding arrest warrants from state police in Erie, Corry, and Warren, along with Crawford County Adult Probation and PA State Parole, Thompson was charged by state police in Girard with burglary, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, terroristic threats, possessing instruments of crime and various traffic offenses, according to police.

Police said Thompson was remanded to Erie County Jail per an Act 33 commitment and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning.

Police said detainers were also issued by Crawford County Adult Probation and PA State Parole.

Police said investigations into several other vehicle thefts and pursuits involving Thompson in Venango, Crawford, and Erie counties are continuing.
