Be A Hero For A Hero 5K

CLARION — The Clarion County Youth Council will hold its Be A Hero For A Hero 5K run/walk Saturday, April 16, at the Clarion County Park in Shippenville.

The race begins at the park with registration starting at 7 a.m. and the race beginning at 9 a.m. Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite hero – be they super or otherwise.

Pre-registration for the event is available online at smileymiles.com or by calling (814) 223-1590.  Registration forms can also be found on the event’s Facebook page, CCYC Be A Hero For A Hero 5K Walk/Run.  Registration costs vary by age group.  High school students cost $10 and all children 11 years old and under are free.

The cost for adult registration is $15 if registered before Friday, April 1.  After April 1, the price for adults increases to $20.  Registration for all age groups is available until 8:45 a.m. on the day of the event.

Awards will be presented to the top three female and top three male winners.  Pre-registered participants will also receive an event T-shirt.  Bottled water and a small snack will be provided after the race.

Raffle tickets are also being offered for a drawing to be held on the day of the race.  Prizes include a stay at a local in, gift certificates for pizza and a case of pop. Raffle tickets cost $1 each or 5 for $6. Raffle tickets are available until the end of the race. The drawing will be held immediately after the race.

Sponsors include several local businesses and organizations.

This family-friendly fundraising event is being held to support the Clarion Sunshine Project, a nonprofit that helps cancer patients with out-of-pocket expenses.

The event was created by Clarion County Youth Council students as a county-wide initiative to support a local cause. Students are responsible for gathering sponsors for the event.

Nancy Carner Memorial 5K for Hope

FRANKLIN – The annual Nancy Carner Memorial 5K for Hope will be held on the Samuel Justus Recreational Trail on Saturday, May 14.

Registration will begin at 7 a.m. at the Salt Box House near the Eighth Street bridge in Franklin. The 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m. slightly north of the Salt Box House. The 3.1-mile race loop will use the paved asphalt and mostly flat bike trail along the Allegheny River.

Awards include overall men’s and women’s first, second and third place, as well as three places in all age divisions. No distinction will be made between runners and walkers. The race includes fundraisers, raffles, T-shirt sales and food.

Cost is $20 if registered by April 15 and $25 after April 15.  All pre-registered entrants will receive a T-shirt and goody bag.  The race is sponsored by the Chamor Cancer Cickers Relay for Life Team and all proceeds will go to the Venango Relay for Life event benefiting the American Cancer Society.
