Franklin woman dies in Mercer County crash

From staff reports

Mercer state police said a Franklin woman died in a two-vehicle crash in Wolf Creek Township on Thursday.

Police said Betty Greggs, 89, driving a 2017 Subaru Impreza, was traveling west on Interstate 80 at about noon. She pulled off the interstate at the Grove City exit. She descended the ramp and for unknown reasons drove through the intersection with Route 173.

While in the intersection, the front driver’s-side of Greggs’ vehicle was hit head-on by a 2012 Jeep Liberty driven by Lorraine Ruley, 76, of Grove City, police said.

After the collision, police said, Greggs’ vehicle spun about 270 degrees, traveled backward about 40 feet, rolled down an embankment and came to rest about 10 feet from the road.

Greggs was pronounced dead at the scene by the Mercer County coroner, police said.

Ruley suffered suspected minor injuries, but she was not transported to a hospital, police said.
