Meadville man charged in overdose death

A Meadville man is facing charges stemming from an incident that occurred in January in which he is accused of multiple drug charges, one resulting in a death by overdose.

A criminal complaint filed through district judge Partick Lowrey’s office says Sugarcreek Borough officer Lt. Darin Baker arrested Calvin Jessep Heath, 34, of Meadville in Penn Hills on Friday morning.

Heath was arrested in Penn Hills with the help of the Penn Hills police department.

“I worked closely with Venango County Coroner, Christina Rugh, Venango County District Attorney, Shawn White and Constable Butch Huey in this case,” said Baker.

Constable Huey assisted Lt. Baker in arresting Heath in Penn Hills on Friday morning.

Heath’s preliminary arraignment was held on Friday afternoon before Lowrey, the criminal docket said.

Heath has been charged with one felony count of drug delivery resulting in death, one misdemeanor count manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver and one count of misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter.

Heath failed to post $250,000 bail and is being held in Venango County jail.

A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday afternoon in Venango County Central Court.
