OC firefighters to collect coats for kids Friday

From staff reports

The Oil City Fire Department will conduct its annual Coats for Kids drive Friday in downtown Oil City.

Members of Oil City Firefighters Local 700 will collect donations in both business districts from about 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The goal of the firefighters is to provide a winter coat for every child in Venango County who needs a coat.

Last year, about 500 coats were handed out to students in the Oil City, Franklin, Valley Grove and Cranberry school districts.

Since the program began in 2014, the firefighters have distributed more than 2,000 new coats to youngsters in need.

John Horn, an Oil City firefighter and EMT, said the goal this year is to raise $10,000 to buy about 500 coats.
