2 OC men accused of seriously injuring another man

Two Oil City men are facing charges for beating up and seriously injuring a third man in Oil City.

Oil City police said in a criminal complaint that on July 14, an Oil City officer who was on his way to another call heard a man screaming for help near the intersection of State and East First streets.

The man’s assailants were later identified as Robert Neubauer, 42, and Gary Dahle, 42, the complaint said.

The man, who had blood on his face and chest, said someone had stabbed him, according to the complaint.

Witnesses said the man had not been stabbed but that someone had “jumped” him, the complaint said.

The bloodied man was treated by Oil City firefighters and taken to UPMC Northwest by Community Ambulance Service, the complaint said. From there he was flown to UPMC Hamot, according to the complaint.

The man later told police he had a head injury that required staples and a collapsed lung from being hit with a pipe or other object, the complaint said.

Officers followed a trail of blood down State Street to School Street to where the assault happened, the complaint said.

Someone told police that Neubauer and a man called “Jake,” later identified as Dahle, had assaulted the man, according to the complaint.

When police spoke to Neubauer, he said that after an argument with two men, he thought his cell phone had been taken so he got Dahle and went to talk to the men about his phone, the complaint said.

Neubauer told police he and Dahle didn’t have weapons and didn’t hit the man, according to the complaint.

Video footage from the area of the assault shows the two men walking along School Street and Neubauer and Dahle running after them, the complaint said.

Then the footage shows all four men walking back the other direction and Dahle with a pipe or similar object in his hand, the complaint said.

Dahle and Neubauer were charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and conspiracy-aggravated assault.

They were arraigned Saturday and placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail, and their preliminary hearings are scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
