3-year-old girl among 4 hurt in Polk crash

From staff reports

A 3-year-old girl was flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh Thursday night following a four-vehicle accident along Mercer Road in Polk Borough.

The crash took place around 6:30 p.m. in the area of 250 Mercer Road and Reagle Way off Route 62.

Polk Borough police said a truck was turning into a driveway when it was struck on the passenger’s side by another vehicle. The impact caused the truck to slide sideways and strike two other cars that were parked nearby.

The young child and her grandfather were standing outside one of the vehicles that was parked and they were struck, police said.

The child was pinned between two vehicles and was transported by STAT MedEvac for treatment in Pittsburgh.

Police said three others were injured in the crash, but none of those injuries were life-threatening.

No update was provided on the condition of the 3-year-old girl, and no names have been released.

Sandycreek Volunteer Fire Department, the Venango County Sheriff’s Office and Community Ambulance Service also assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
