Brewery plans on hold at Cornplanter Square

Plans for a brewery on the first floor of the Cornplanter Square building in downtown Oil City have been put on hold.

“We reached out to our prospective tenant, and it became clear that they wanted to focus on their existing businesses,” Jason Ruggiero, director of the Venango County Regional Planning Commission, said at Tuesday’s commission meeting.

“We amicably parted ways so they could focus on their restaurant endeavors,” Ruggiero said. “It’s not that we don’t want the space to be a brewery, it’s just we have no partner now.”

Ruggiero said the plan is to continue working on the third floor of the building, which will become office space and a business incubator, while giving businesses time to bounce back.

In time, the plan is to recruit a new partner to put in a brewery on the first floor, Ruggiero added.

Ruggiero also said discussions about the first floor of Cornplanter Square are ongoing.

In other business Tuesday, the commission gave conditional approval to the construction of a garage by Gahr’s Tire in Barkeyville.

The proposed 6,720-square foot garage would be located on a lot at the intersection of Route 8 (Pittsburgh Road) and Gibb Road just north of Interstate 80.

The lot sits between Speedway on one side of Gibb Road and Arby’s and Motel 6 on the other.

A waiver regarding landscaping was requested as landscaping is required by the county but not by Barkeyville Borough when the commercial structure is between two other commercial structures as the garage will be.

The commission approved the waiver.

Commission chairman Nancy Marano and board member Keith Klingler both said it was better to leave this particular decision of landscaping up to the municipality.
