Fire chief: Take caution on river

From staff reports

The ice boom on the Allegheny River in Oil City was in the process of being removed by the city’s public works department on Wednesday, according to Oil City Fire Department Chief Derek Long.

As a result, Long said, various amounts of debris, including trees and garbage, could be floating down the river and travel as far as Franklin or beyond. Anyone engaging in recreation activities on the river during the next few weeks should be alert for that possibility.

“There could even be things under the water,” he said.
