Franklin to get nearly $315K for traffic signal upgrade

From staff reports

Franklin is among 77 communities statewide that will benefit from $35.5 million in grant money to support traffic signal upgrades, according to a news release from Gov. Josh Shapiro’s office.

Franklin will receive $314,760 for updated signal equipment at Liberty Street and also 12th Street, in an effort to increase safety and mobility through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s “Green Light-Go” program, the release said.

Green Light-Go grants are provided as reimbursement to municipalities for updates to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals, according to the release.

The projects, the release said, will be funded through the appropriation for fiscal year 2023-24.

Grant funding through the Green Light-Go program may be utilized for a range of operational improvements that include, but are not limited to, light-emitting diode (LED) technology installation, traffic-signal re-timing, developing special event plans and monitoring traffic signals, as well as upgrading traffic signals to the latest technologies, the release said.

“Thanks to these grants, drivers and pedestrians are now safer, and Pennsylvanians can get where they need to go quicker and more efficiently,” Shapiro said.
