Man accused of luring girl into vehicle

A Franklin man is facing charges for luring a young girl into his vehicle following a dispute between the girl and another girl.

Franklin state police said in a criminal complaint they were called Wednesday to the Orchard Park Trailer Court in Cranberry Township in regard to a child being taken away from her home in a vehicle by David McCullough, 57.

The 8-year-old girl and her 14-year-old sister were at home when another girl who also resides in Orchard Park came to visit, the complaint said.

During the visit, the 8-year-old and the visiting girl became involved in a dispute and the girl who was visiting later returned home, according to the complaint.

McCullough, who is a close relative of the girl who was visiting, became angry about the dispute so he went to find the 8-year-old girl, the complaint said.

He lured her into his vehicle without her mother’s consent while she was walking along Cherry Lane in Orchard Park, according to the complaint.

The girl’s older sister and other witnesses tried to run down McCullough’s vehicle and get her back, but he didn’t stop, the complaint said.

The girl and other witnesses said McCullough was yelling at her for engaging in a fight with the other girl earlier in the day, according to the complaint.

After driving around Orchard Park for about 15 minutes, the girl was told she had to go to McCullough’s residence and apologize to the other girl, the complaint said.

McCullough was charged with felony counts of lure child into motor vehicle, interference with custody of children and false imprisonment of minor/not parent.

He was arraigned and placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
