Man facing charges for assaulting juvenile, threatening police

A Butler man is facing charges for fighting with a juvenile at the Franklin Sheetz on Friday.

Franklin police said in a criminal complaint they were informed that Joshua Eck, 39, was fighting with the boy in Sheetz at about 3 p.m. Friday.

Eck and the juvenile both told police punches were exchanged between the two, and witnesses said Eck started the fight by swinging at the boy multiple times without provocation, the complaint said.

Police took Eck into custody, and while in the back seat of the police vehicle, Eck became “agitated” and began to yell at police, including threatening to kill the officer, and also began to spit on the cage, according to the complaint.

Then at the police station, Eck tried to pull away from, jump, and kick officers while continuing to yell threats at them, the complaint said.

He is facing a felony charge of criminal attempt — aggravated assault — attempts to cause or causes bodily injury to designated individuals, misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, and a summary count of public drunkenness.

He is being held in the Venango County jail with bail denied due to his being a flight risk and a danger to himself and others, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled Oct. 11 in Central Court.
