Man waives hearing in OC assault case

An Oil City man facing assault and related charges in connection with a domestic incident last week waived his preliminary hearing in the case Wednesday in Venango County Central Court.

Charges filed against Paul Marsh Jr., 34, will now be bound over for further proceedings in the Court of Common Pleas.

Marsh has been charged with misdemeanor counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats, in addition to a summary count of harassment.

A criminal complaint filed through district judge Matthew Kirtland’s office said Oil City police received a report from Hasson Heights Elementary School on Jan. 4 that a woman and child were involved in a dispute with a man.

Patrolman Cory Ruditis called the woman and she was taken to the police station where she said her fianc – Marsh – had pushed and struck her during an argument at a home on Manning Street, the complaint said.

Marsh grabbed a knife while attempting to lead their child from the residence, the complaint said.

The woman said she immediately ushered the child from the home and fled to another family member’s residence, the complaint said.

Marsh’s bail was modified Wednesday to $50,000 unsecured.
