Officer hurt pursuing OC man who had warrants for his arrest

An Oil City police officer was injured after falling down a hillside in the downtown area while pursuing an Oil City man who had warrants for his arrest.

Shortly after noon Friday, two Oil City police officers saw Christopher Fletcher, 40, walking along Center Street, police said in a criminal complaint.

Police went into a store where Fletcher had entered and told him that he was under arrest, but then Fletcher ran out the door, the complaint said.

Fletcher ran up Spring Street before cutting down the hill near the Salvation Army with police pursuing him, the complaint said.

Fletcher, who was tased multiple times, ran up and down the hill several times in an attempt to elude police, the complaint said.

During the chase, one of the officers fell down the hillside and injured his torso, the complaint said.

Fletcher was eventually caught and a small baggie of meth was found in his pocket along with a glass pipe for smoking meth, the complaint said.

Fletcher has been charged with felony counts of escape and aggravated assault, as well as misdemeanor counts of flight to avoid apprehension, resist arrest/other law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned Monday before District Judge Andrew Fish and placed in the Venango County jail with bail denied due to him being a flight risk, his prior record and being a threat to society.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Nov. 1 before Fish.
