Ragon: Rash of vehicle break-ins on South Side

Oil City Police Chief Dave Ragon advised residents to ensure their parked vehicles are locked after multiple vehicle break-ins were reported to police from early Saturday evening to well into Sunday morning.

According to Ragon, the vehicle break-ins took place on the South Side, “from Third Street all the way up to and including Seventh Street, and from Cowell Avenue all the way to Englewood Avenue.”

“There were about 11 unlocked vehicles broken into and items were stolen, from about dusk to dawn,” he said. There also were items from those vehicles that were found on the ground.

Ragon said an image of one suspect was caught on camera, but he believes more than one person was involved in the break-ins “because there were so many of them.”

“It’s that time of the year when people are carrying gifts in their vehicles because of the holidays,” which could draw perpetrators, Ragon said. “People need to lock their vehicles.”

As of early Monday evening, there was no further information from police on the investigation.

Police will continue to monitor the area as the investigation continues, said Ragon, who also is asking anyone who has video footage of any of the incidents to please share them with police, who can be reached at (814) 678-3080.
