Rick Magee and the Roadhouse Rockers will round out the Oil City Arts Council’s summer concerts in Justus Park. The band will perform starting at 7:30 p.m. today for the Summer’s Last Blast event. Food will be available for purchase beginning at 5 p.m.

The concerts have been part of the ongoing yearlong music series that take place downtown. The concerts are arranged by Daniel Feroz.

Rick Magee and the Roadhouse Rockers are known for the southern rocking blues sound though they are originally from Northeast. Their sound pays homage to icons such as ZZ Top, The Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughen, Lynyrd Skynrd and others. They also play their own original sets.

The band is comprised of Bill “Gypsy” Cracium on drums, Dave Brunn on bass and frontman and guitarist Rick Magee.

In 1996 and 1999, Magee was the top finalist in the Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar Competition. Naturally, Magee’s guitar style closely resembles that of Jimi Hendrix.

The band has shared the stage with the likes of Charlie Daniels, Eddie Money, Ted Nugent, Dee Snyder, Marshall Tucker, Foghat, 38 Special, Great White and more.

They play around 170 shows a year across the nation.

Since 1995 the band has released five CDs – “Takin’ It By Storm” in 1995, “Honor Among Thieves” in 1997, “Live at Hazen” in 2000, “Bad Machine” in 2002 and “The Best Of” in 2009. Their music can also be found at reverbnation.com.

They are also known as a “bikers’ band” and can often found at festivals and large bike gatherings such as the Daytona Bike Week, Myrtle Beach Bike Week, H.O.G. Rallies and Sturgis Black Hills.

The arts council continues its smaller free outdoor lunchtime concerts Wednesday in Pipeline Alley on Seneca Street.

Jake Karns will perform on Wednesday and Winslow and Simpson will perform Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Starting in September, more concerts will take place every second Friday inside the National Transit Building.
