Sugarcreek Borough Council on Wednesday unanimously adopted an ordinance that prevents people from parking on Front Street.

The ordinance comes after two months of discussion and planning on the part of council.

The issue was initially raised in June by council member Larry Baughman, who cited an accident at the intersection of Egbert and Front streets.

Council contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, which maintains the road, for permission to amend the ordinance that allows parking on both sides of the street.

The motion to adopt the ordinance came from Baughman. It was seconded by council member Howard Barger.

In addition to amending the ordinance, the board spoke with police Chief Matt Carlson regarding its enforcement.

Borough Solicitor Brian Spaid said, effective immediately, no parking will be allowed along Front Street.

Carlson said frequent offenders will receive a warning before police action is taken against them.
