A Franklin man was found not guilty this week of 14 charges related to sexual abuse following a two-day jury trial in Venango County Court.

The trial for Troy Neely, 47, was held before Senior Judge Thomas Kistler.

Neely was acquitted of felony charges that included involuntary deviate sexual intercourse person less than 16, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with child, unlawful contact with minor-sexual offenses, aggravated indecent assault complainant less than 16, aggravated indecent assault complainant less than 13, indecent assault person less than 13 and indecent assault person less than 16.

Neely was charged in September 2022 with 271 felony and misdemeanor counts relating to allegations that he sexually abused a young girl at a residence in Oil City over the course of five years, according to court documents.

Many of the charges against Neely were dismissed by information in December 2022, and all but the 14 charges of which he was acquitted were later also dismissed by information as the case proceeded through the court system.

Neely was represented by private attorneys Douglas Sullivan and Eric Hackwelder.

Venango County assistant district attorney Kyle Peasley prosecuted the case.
