Heath’s owners charged with deceitful practices

From staff reports

The two Oil City women who own Heath’s Market are facing numerous charges that accuse them of selling products at the market that contained whitetail deer but weren’t labeled as containing the venison.

A criminal complaint filed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission said that between Dec. 7, 2021, and Jan. 17, 2023, an undercover investigator with the Game Commission made many purchases of meat products on 25 occasions from the market, owned by Heidi Wise, 43, and Rebecca Colvin, 49.

Of the 47 products purchased and tested for DNA, 20 tested positive for the presence of whitetail deer, including ham loaf, meat sticks, bologna and kielbasa, though none of the products were labeled as containing venison, the complaint said.

Wise and Colvin were both charged with 20 misdemeanor counts of deceitful business practices-adulterated goods and 20 summary counts of buying and selling game/wildlife.

Their preliminary hearings are scheduled Nov. 29 in Venango County Central Court.
