OC woman charged for striking officer

From staff reports

An Oil City woman is facing charges for striking a police officer while she was under the influence of alcohol.

Oil City police said in a criminal complaint they were were called Friday evening to a Hiland Avenue residence because a woman was intoxicated and had become violent at the home.

Police found Amy Acklin, 30, at the residence, and she told police she didn’t want to go her home across town and she became aggravated, the complaint said.

Acklin kicked at officers and struck one officer in the leg multiple times while the officers tried to speak calmly to her, the complaint said. Officers told her that if she calmed down they would give her a ride home, according to the complaint.

Acklin left the Hiland Avenue residence and then sat down on the steps and said she didn’t want to go anywhere, the complaint said.

After many attempts to get her to walk with them and continuing to tell her she could get a ride home, police told Acklin she was under arrest for public drunkenness, the complaint said.

Before police handcuffed her, they took her to the police cruiser and were trying to get her in the vehicle when she slipped her arm out of an officer’s grasp and tried to punch him in the face, the complaint said.

She didn’t make full contact with the officer but did strike his nose and lip, according to the complaint.

Acklin was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and a summary count of public drunkenness.

She was placed in the Venango County jail after failing to post bond, and her preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
