Oil City police investigating armed robbery

From staff reports

Oil City police are investigating an armed robbery that took place early Friday morning at a home in the 1100 block of East Second Street.

Police said officers were dispatched to the residence at about 1:15 a.m. after receiving a report of a man breaking into the home with a gun.

Police spoke with witnesses who described the gun-wielding man as being about 6 feet tall and wearing a black jacket, jeans and a ski mask.

The man fired a single shot into the ceiling in an attempt to rob the occupants and a scuffle ensued, police said.

The resident was able to gain control of the weapon, which officers recovered along with several other pieces of evidence, police said.

Oil City Police Chief Bob Wenner said blood was found at the scene and it will be sent off for DNA testing.

Wenner said the man fled west from the residence on foot toward Pumphouse Road.

No vehicle is suspected to be involved in the attempted robbery, but Wenner said the investigation is continuing.
