Pennwest Homes workers end strike

From staff reports

Pennwest Homes and its union workers recently arrived at an agreement on a new contract.

Representatives with both the Emlenton-area company and union declined to provide details of the agreement, which brought an end to the nearly weeklong strike, or talk about the issues that led to the walkout.

Kevin P. Hallam, a leader with the International Association for Machinists and Aerospace Workers, said a new contract was finally ratified March 6, with workers returning to the facility the following day.

The company’s 93 unionized workers began their strike with the formation of picket lines on March 1 after negotiations for a new contract fell through.

Pennwest Homes, located on Route 38, launched in 2005. The company builds modular homes in many different sizes and styles, according to its website.
