Route 157 bridge work starts today

From staff reports

Work to replace the bridge that carries Route 157 (Fryburg Road) over a tributary of Wolf Creek in Cranberry Township is scheduled start to today.

The 15-foot-long bridge is located on Route 157 near the Cranberry Township and Pinegrove Township line, about four miles east of the intersection with Route 62. The bridge was built in 1942 and is classed as structurally deficient. Approximately 2,700 vehicles a day use the bridge.

Work will involve replacement of the existing bridge with a concrete box culvert, along with guiderail updates, and paving the bridge and the bridge approaches.

The contractor is Horizon Construction Group. The contract cost is $559,900, which is to be paid entirely with state funds. This project is made possible by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s comprehensive transportation plan.

Work on the project is expected to be completed by June 15.

No detours are anticipated during construction, but traffic will be restricted to a single lane during much of the construction project. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers until Wednesday, March 15, when a temporary traffic signal is to be installed.
