4-H leaders head to national contest

From staff reports

Venango County 4-H announced Pennsylvania has chosen its two leaders, both from Venango County, to send to the 4-H Salute to Excellence national contest.

Sarah Burke, of Emlenton, was recognized as Pennsylvania’s 4-H Volunteer of the Year with four years in that role.

Yvonne Paranick, of Cranberry, was recognized as Pennsylvania’s 4-H Lifetime Volunteer with over 50 years working with Venango 4-H.

Burke helps run the Wild Hogs club, teen council and is president of the Livestock Committee.

Paranick has worked with the 4-H Development Committee for many years. She has helped develop the program, train leaders and raised thousands of dollars to send 4-Hers to camps and other educational events.

Pennsylvania sends only two leaders to compete nationally — one volunteer of the year who has less than 10 years of experience as a 4-H leader and one lifetime volunteer who has over 10 years of 4-H volunteer experience.
