Cochranton grad dies after falling from abandoned plant

A Cochranton High School graduate died Tuesday after he fell from the roof of an abandoned munitions plant in Crawford County.

Crawford County coroner Scott Schell identified the victim as Tyler J. Buchan, 20, of Carlton.

Schell said Buchan, a 2014 Cochranton graduate, was with three other men and a woman when he fell at about 12:05 a.m. Tuesday at the former warehouse in the area of Keystone Ordnance in Greenwood Township, Crawford County.

The building used to be part of a plant that made munitions used in World War I and World War II.

Buchan fell onto a concrete slab and his friends were driving him from the scene when paramedics intercepted them and took Buchan to Meadville Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Schell said Buchan died of cardiac arrest brought on by traumatic injuries.

Buchan is the son of Stephen and Lisa Buchan of Carlton, and he has a sister, Mackenzie M. Buchan, also of Carlton.

His paternal grandmother is Sue Buchan of Franklin.

He was a football player at Cochranton and coached junior high football for Franklin School District.

Meadville state police are continuing to investigate the incident.
