Hoops fundraiser for moms battling cancer now set for Monday

From staff reports

The fundraising event that had been scheduled Wednesday at Venango Catholic High School to help the families of two Oil City elementary basketball players whose mothers are battling cancer was postponed by weather.

Jeff Polley’s Just Serve Hoops championship night for fifth- and sixth-grade basketball players is now scheduled Monday at VC in the same 4:30 to 9 p.m. time period.

Polley hopes to raise $1,200 for Laura Barber and Jessica Stephens and their families. The two women who are fighting cancer are the mothers of Oil City players Braylon Barber and Gavin Stephens.

All proceeds from a concession stand, bake sale and 50-50 drawings will be given to the families between the third and fourth quarters of the last game Monday. The final game is scheduled to start at about 8:05 p.m.

Participating teams are from Oil City, St. Stephen, Franklin, Cranberry, Clarion-Limestone and Meadville.
