I-80 wracked by snow-related crashes

DUBOIS (AP) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says three different stretches of Interstate 80 have been closed by weather-related crashes in western Pennsylvania.

A jack-knifed tractor-trailer that caught fire has closed the westbound lanes between Mile Marker 4 in Mercer County and the Ohio border.

There are two multi-vehicle crashes in the eastbound lanes that are also blocking traffic.

One crash, near Grove City, has closed the eastbound lanes between Mile Markers 25 and 27. The other crash has closed the eastbound lanes between Exit 90 near the DuBois Regional Airport to Exit 97, the junction at Route 219 that leads to Brockway and DuBois.

PennDOT officials couldn’t immediately say how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone was injured Wednesday morning.

Lake effect snow bands were being blamed for slick roads and poor visibility.
