Help available to secure property tax, rent rebates

State Rep. Lee James has scheduled two days for area residents to receive free assistance with their property tax and rent rebate assistance forms.

– Friday, Feb. 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Franklin VFW, 411 Ninth St.

– Thursday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Oil City YWCA, 109 Central Ave.

To qualify for a property tax or rent rebate, applicants must be a Pennsylvania resident; age 65 or older, a widow or widower age 50 or older, or a person with permanent disabilities age 18 or older; and a homeowner earning up to $35,000 annually or a renter earning up to $15,000 annually.

Required proof to bring includes:

– Age: Accepted proof of age includes birth certificate, driver’s license or PennDOT identification card, PACE or PACENET card or Medicare Card.

-Rent or property taxes paid: For proof of taxes paid, receipted tax bills are required (no canceled checks) or a tax bill with a copy of the canceled check. For proof of rent, a rent certificate from the landlord or rent receipts signed by the landlord are required.

– Proof of income for 2019.
