Artist’s Attic moving to Franklin

The Artist’s Attic art supply store and studio, currently located in the basement level of the National Transit Building in Oil City, will be moving to the basement level of the Porch Music Store in Franklin early this month.

Manager Heidi Krug-Whistle said the Artist’s Attic’s last day in Oil City was April 25, and she hopes to have it open in Franklin by early next week.

“We were hoping by May Mart, but it probably won’t be,” she said. “We’re planning on doing an open house for the public once it’s up and running, so people can see our art and music space.”

The art store will be located at the previously-empty back portion of the basement of Porch Music, the front of which is music studios.

Holly Gibbons owns both Artist’s Attic and Porch Music, and Krug-Whistle manages both businesses. In addition, Gibbons owns the building that houses Porch Music.

“We’re super-excited, as much as we wanted to stay in Oil City — we both live in Oil City,” Krug-Whistle said. “We will find other ways to support the arts in Oil City, it just made more sense for us to move here.”

She said most of the artists who sold work through Artist’s Attic will be moving to Franklin with the store, and some will continue to offer classes.

The first class of the summer will be a silk scarf-dying class with artist Julia McCray on May 20.

The public can best follow the business’ other upcoming events and other news through Facebook, Krug-Whistle said.

In the new space, the business will be able to expand its art supply offerings as well, she added.
