Venango group offering garden beds for summer

From staff reports

Community members may sign up with Venango Area Community Gardens to request a raised bed for the summer for the use of their neighborhood, church, nonprofit or other community group.

The 4-by-4-foot beds are made by students from Venango Technology Center Natural Resources class, who manage the Vo-Tech greenhouses. The beds also are provided with soil.

For the raised beds, a refundable fee of $25 is required, and upon completion of the gardening at the end of the summer, the money will be returned to the community member or group.

The deadline to request a raised bed or plot is April 12.

To sign up for one of the garden beds, visit the community gardens’ Facebook page at www.facebook.com/VenangoAreaCommunityGardens.

Educational opportunities will be available to gardeners through Penn State Master Gardeners including raised bed gardening and gardening basics. Classes will be held at the Venango Technology Center at State Street Gardens.
