Clark’s Donuts Plus has moved up the list to third-tastiest donut shop in all of Pennsylvania.

“We moved up to number three this year,” said Meagan Neidich, dayshift manager.

Last year, Clark’s was number five on a list of the state’s best donuts sponsored by bestthingspa.com, she said.

“For more than 80 years, Clark’s has been bringing smiles to Pennsylvanian faces and bellies through the unparalleled magic of the doughnut. With an extensive selection that trends more classic than hip, this local institution is a great way to treat the kids or even your well-deserving self,” the website says.

Clark’s award-winning recipe relies on frosting and cream made from scratch, Neidich noted.

“Bucket frostings and creams just don’t taste good,” she said.

Another secret lies in what Clark’s donuts lack – preservatives, Neidich said. Clark’s donuts only last a day or two, but their shelf life needs to be no longer as the sweet treats are snatched up as soon as they are made.

The donut shop has retail locations in Cranberry and Clarion and delivers to an ever-expanding list of grocery and convenience stores.

“We just keep going further and further,” Neidich said.

This year is the pastry shop’s 80th anniversary, and the store is planning a big celebration this summer, she said.

The full list of award-winning donut shops can be found at besthingspa.com, or on Clark’s Facebook page.

Federal Donuts in Philadelphia won first on the list of best donut shops. The Frying Dutchman Donut Shop in Kutztown was number two.
