Cherrytree firefighters pitch safety message

From staff reports

A Christmas wreath with green bulbs has been hung in front of the Cherrytree Township Volunteer Fire Department and the department is once again challenging Cherrytree Township residents to “Keep the Wreath Green” throughout the Christmas season.

If there is a structure fire in Cherrytree Township during the holiday season, a red bulb will replace a green bulb in the wreath. The goal is to keep the wreath green until Jan. 2.

The way to “Keep the Wreath Green” is to follow safety rules during the holiday season, which include:
  • Don’t leave candles burning unattended.
  • When using live trees, maintain water in the stand to keep the tree from drying out.
  • Don’t overload electrical circuits.
