Firefighters respond to garage fire in Frenchcreek Twp.

Polk firefighters responded to a structure fire at 3:11 p.m. Sunday at 1081 Mercer Road in Frenchcreek Township. Firefighters said the fire apparently started with burning leaves and spread to the garage. The garage was fully involved when firefighters arrived on scene. According to Polk fire chief Tom Sherman, the fire initially began in a burn barrel and was thought to be out before it spread to and consumed the two-stall garage. Sherman said that firefighters remained on the scene until well after 5 p.m. Sunday. Fire departments from Polk, Sandycreek, Rocky Grove, Utica and Reno were assisted by Stoneboro and Sandy Lake from Mercer County. Utica Ambulance was on scene but no injuries were reported, according to Venango County 911. (By Gary Diday)
