Komatsu President and CEO Tetsuji Ohashi visited the company’s Product Development Center for underground equipment in Franklin on Thursday.

The purpose of Ohashi’s visit was to learn more about the work conducted there and meet area employees.

Komatsu completed its acquisition of the former Joy Global in April, and the companies are now working to integrate.

Ohashi and other executives visited the Franklin facility and others in state this week as part of the Japanese tradition of a “gemba walk” or visit to the workplace, to enhance their understanding of the company’s capabilities and get to know employees.

During his time in Franklin, Ohashi spoke to employees, presented awards for patents earned, toured the facility and operated a Joy shearer and miner, among other things.
