Oil Region tourism award winners announced

From staff reports

The winners of the 2022 Oil Region tourism awards have been chosen.

Nearly 500 voters selected their favorites from more than 50 nominations in eight categories to pick the best of the best in the Oil Region.

The winners are:

  • Best dish — Liberty Street burger at TrAils to Ales, Franklin
  • Best drink — Brokenspoke blueberry beer at TrAils to Ales, Franklin. This beat the vanilla iced latte at Iron Furnace in Franklin by one vote.
  • Best room — Peddlers and Paddlers Inn, Franklin
  • Best shop — Core Goods, Oil City
  • Best industry advocate — Ronnie Beith with the City of Franklin
  • Best industry partner/organization — Venango Area Chamber of Commerce
  • Best must do activity or attraction — Applefest
  • Best landmark — Two Mile Run County Park. This beat the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin by one vote.

“The participation in this contest is outstanding,” said Emily Altomare, the communications and tourism manager for the Oil Region Alliance. “We shortened the nomination and voting periods this year, but still saw a lot of variety and interaction.”

There are no cash prizes for the winners, but nominees and winners will be promoted through the Alliance’s social media and other marketing efforts.

The winners receive a certificate and sign to hang in their business.

This was the second year these awards were handed out, and Altomare is encouraging everyone to visit the tourism amenities nominated during both years of the contest.

“We will definitely hold the contest again in 2023,” Altomare said. “We may add or exchange some categories in the future to keep the contest fresh.”
