Fire displaces family of 7

A family of seven, including five children, were displaced after a fire destroyed their Meadville Pike home early Saturday afternoon, according to a news release from the Franklin Fire Department. There were no injuries.

According to the release, firefighters were dispatched at 1:12 p.m., and the first unit arrived within three minutes to 169 Meadville Pike, where they found significant smoke and fire coming from the rear of the house on the second floor.

An interior attack was initiated in which crews were confronted with heavy smoke and heat conditions, the release said. Crews continued pushing forward and extinguished the seat of the fire. Crews then continued extinguishing hot spots and conducted overhaul operations.

The homeowners — Zachary Brock and Stephanie Goodman — were at home at the time with their five children, and all of them were able to exit the home without injury, according to the release. The home, which was not insured, and its contents are a total loss, estimated at $75,000.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family with emergency housing and essentials, the release said.

The Franklin Fire Department responded with 13 firefighters, the release said. Also responding were fire departments from Oil City, Rocky Grove and Seneca RIT, along with the Franklin Police Department, Community Ambulance Service and National Fuel Gas. Sandycreek Volunteer Fire Department was on standby.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the release said. The scene was cleared at 3:45 p.m.
