The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) was hard at work Monday cleaning up loose rocks and debris in Oil City along the side of Main Street near the Center Street Bridge.
According to PennDOT Press Officer Jill Harry, the work is something that PennDOT does annually.
“During the spring, the ground becomes oversaturated from rain and makes rocks and debris fall,” Harry explained.
Due to the way the hill was cut, it is something that PennDOT has to deal with at least once a year, she said.
While crews worked to clean up the bottom of the hillside, they kept one lane open to passing traffic.
The work was being done at the same location as the rock slide which took place back in March of this year due to rapid change in weather.
Harry said the work clearing the space was also being done in preparation for PennDOT’s planned replacement of the barriers that were damaged by falling rocks during the winter.
