Students at Seventh Street Elementary celebrated their reading achievements in a sweet way—by turning principal Amy Highfield into a human sundae. As part of the Keystone State Literacy Association’s Families and Reading Month, students who met the reading requirements got to vote on a fun reward for their efforts, choosing between Highfield kissing a pig, dressing as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, or becoming a sundae. The human sundae—with ice cream, syrups, fruits, marshmallows, and whipped cream—won out, and the entire school gathered to watch the messy and hilarious spectacle. The event, organized by reading specialist Jenny Mumford, was designed to encourage continued reading over the summer.
