OC’s Core Goods moving across town

Oil City’s Core Goods business will be moving from Seneca Street to a new location on the South Side later this year.

The new site at the corner of Central Avenue and East First Street that formerly housed the Movie Stop and Raymond James will hopefully open by the beginning of November, said Ashley Sheffer, who owns and operates Core Goods.

The business sells a variety of bulk food as well as locally produced food, among other things.

Sheffer said building owner Bob Kellner is planning to put in a doorway connecting the two storefronts.

In one side of the store, where Movie Stop was at 2 East First, Sheffer plans to open a retail space similar to her current shop on Seneca Street. She noted the retail space is much larger than her current store.

The first phase of the transition will be cleaning, updating and replacing the floor in the 2 East First side to get that part of the store open later this year.

The next phase, Sheffer said, is building a kitchen in the part of the building formerly occupied by Raymond James.

On that side of the building, in addition to the kitchen and an office for her, Sheffer said she would like to have a “community gathering space.”

The space would be a place to teach classes on topics such as sustainability, gardening, cooking and composting, Sheffer said. She also plans to rent out the space.

When the space is not in use, Sheffer said people are welcome to come in and spend time there.

She added that her customers have been very supportive and many have become friends. And she also said she wants to work with other nearby businesses.
