Book store opens for test run in Oil City; grand opening slotted for next month

Chris Osborne is opening The Raven’s End: Books and Fine Art on Central Avenue in Oil City with his wife, Nancy. The book shop will be open today and tomorrow for Oil Heritage Festival and will hold a grand opening later on Aug. 16.

The Raven’s End: Books and Fine Art at 17 Central Avenue is open for Oil Heritage Festival.

The shop is “equal parts a new and used book store and art gallery,” Chris Osborne, who owns the shop with his wife, Nancy, said. Osborne said when it comes to books, he has a little bit of everything, but if there is a focus it is the works of local authors. He added that he is expecting a shipment of books soon.

The art featured is by local artists, including CJ Hurley and Rafi Perez and Klee Angelie, among others, Osborne said.

The book store’s grand opening will be Aug. 16, Osborne said. During the Oil Heritage Festival, the shop will be open today and tomorrow.

Osborne said his wife will be taking care of the business side of things for the books store as well as printing on T-shirts, coffee mugs, bookmarks and signs.

Osborne, who moved to Venango County from North Carolina, also does Japanese sword polishing. He said he moved his studio from the National Transit Building to the shop on Central Avenue.
