Harrisville Fire Company gets $375K in federal funds

From staff reports

The Harrisville Volunteer Fire Company will receive $375,000 in funding, as part of a $15.7 million package in Community Project Funding grants for western Pennsylvania in the U.S. House-passed budget.

According to a news release from U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly’s office, Kelly secured the funding for the fire station because its current apparatus has required various costly repairs and has declined in reliability.

The apparatus, the release said, doesn’t currently meet National Fire Protection Association standards and poses safety risks to personnel. The new piece of apparatus for a new pumper tanker would increase abilities for firefighting and protection in the Harrisville and Mercer Township areas.

The overall package includes $4 million for volunteer fire departments and more than $1 million for police departments in the 16th District, according to the release. The funding was included in four spending bills to fund the federal government through Sept. 30.

“One of the biggest needs we have seen across western Pennsylvania is more funding for our local volunteer fire departments,” Kelly said. “We are continuing to support true, physical infrastructure that makes our communities stronger and more vibrant places to live.”
